Deccan Chargers eliminate KXIP chances of making it to the playoffs

Deccan Chargers eliminated all chances of Kings XI Punjab making it to the playoffs of IPL 4 as they thrashed them by 82 runs. KXIP captain Adam Gilchrist won the toss and put DC to bat. Openers Shikhar Dhawan (95 not out off 57 balls) and Ravi Teja (60 runs off 41 balls) guided Deccan Chargers to a massive total of 198/2 in 320 overs. In reply, KXIP were bundled out for 116 runs in 19 overs though KXIP skipper Adam Gilchrist was the lone ranger with 51 runs off 37 balls. Amit Mishra took 4 wickets for DC. Shikhar Dhawan was awarded the Man of the Match for his brilliant knock.

With elimination of KXIP, this match also finalized the four teams for the playoffs of IPL 4 which are Chennai Super Kings, Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians. The four teams also play their final matches before the playoffs and that too against each other which would decide the standing of the four teams for the playoffs. The teams which remain at the top 2 of the points table after tomorrow’s matches would get a second chance to make it to the IPL finals in case they lose their first match.

Deccan Chargers beat Sahara Pune Warriors by 6 wickets at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai. DC captain Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and put PW to bat. Pune Warriors kept on losing wickets regularly and ended up at 136/9 in 20 overs. Amit Mishra, Pragyan Ojha and Daniel Christian took 2 wickets each for the Deccan Chargers. In reply, almost Deccan Chargers batsmen contributed in 20s and 30s as DC reached 138/4 in 19.2 overs. Rahul Sharma took 2 wickets for Sahara Pune Warriors. Mumbai Indians faced yet another upset as Deccan Chargers defeated them by 10 runs at their home ground Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Deccan Chargers captain Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and decided to bat. DC kept on losing wickets as they managed to score only 135/6 in 20 overs. Dhawal Kulkarni took 3 wickets for MI. In reply, none of the Mumbai Indians batsmen except skipper Sachin Tendulkar (37 runs off 42 balls) could stay for long at the crease as they kept on losing wickets and ended up with only 125/8 in 20 overs. Anand Rajan took 3 wickets while Ishant Sharma took 2 wickets for DC. Deccan Chargers defeated Delhi Daredevils by 16 runs at Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi. Deccan captain Kumar Sangakkara won the toss and decided to bat. Sunny Sohal (62 runs off 41 balls) played a very good knock supported by Kumar Sangakkara (49 runs off 35 balls) and Cameron White (31 runs off 25 balls) as the Chargers scored 168/4 in 20 overs. Delhi Daredevils in reply kept losing wickets continuously and even a fighting innings by David Warner (51 runs off 48 balls) did not help much as they ended up with only 152/7 in their 20 overs. Daniel Christian and Harmeet Singh took two wickets each for the Deccan Chargers. Sunny Sohal was awarded the Player of the Match.

The home ground of Deccan Chargers since IPL season 1 has been the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium at Hyderabad. They have even been the IPL champions during its second edition at South Africa. However, they had never won a single match in their Hyderabad home ground in all these years till this match. But they finally rose to the occasion and broke the jinx with their first win of IPL season 4 with a 33 run win against Royal Challengers Bangalore. RCB captain Vettori won the toss and put DC to bat. Deccan Chargers went off to a flyer and reached 175/5 in their 20 overs with rapid knocks by Bharat Chipli (61 runs off 35 balls), Sunny Sohal (38 runs off 37 balls) and their captain Kumar Sangakkara (36 runs off 25 balls). Zaheer Khan was the lone ranger in the Bangalore bowling as he took 3 wickets for 32 runs. In reply, Bangalore could never give a befitting reply and kept on losing wickets regularly against the fiery spells of the three DC seamers Dale Steyn (3 wickets for 24 runs), Ishant Sharma (1 wicket for 21 runs) and Manpreet Gony (3 wickets for 31 runs). Virat Kohli was the lone ranger in the Bangalore batting and scored 71 runs off 51 balls but they could only 142/9 in their 20 overs. Steyn was awarded the Man of the Match for his bowling.

Rajasthan Royals defeats Deccan Chargers by 8 wickets

Deccan Chargers have never won a match at their home ground Hyderabad and the jinx seemed to continue. Rajasthan Royals seasoned skipper Shane Warne won the toss and opted to field. Shikhar Dhawan and Ishank Jaggi opened the batting for Deccan Chargers and scored 24 and 25 runs respectively. But they kept losing wickets at regular intervals though some last minute efforts by Daniel Christian and Ravi Teja with scores of 26 (19 balls) and 28 (20 balls) helped them to reach 137/8 in their 20 overs. Siddharth Trivedi and Amit Singh scalped 3 wikcets each for the Royals while Warne himself chipped in with a couple of wickets. In reply, Rajasthan Royals made a very stable start with Amit Paunikar (20 runs off 19 balls) and Rahul Dravid (28 runs for 35 balls) followed by some hitting from Johan Botha (67 runs off 47 balls) and Ross Taylor (21 runs from 14 balls) as they chased the target with 7 balls to spare. Siddharth Trivedi was adjudged the Man of the Match for his spell of 3/15 in his 4 overs.

IPL announces final squads for IPL 2011 Season 4

All the 10 teams participating in IPL 2011 Season 4 including the two new entrants Sahara Pune Warriors and Kochi Tuskers Kerala have announced their final list of players in their respective teams. Out of the teams, Sahara Pune Warriors is the only team to have registered their full quota of 30 players in the squad. Delhi Daredevils were also close behind with 29 players while Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Deccan Chargers and Rajasthan Royals named 27 players each in their final squads. Royal Challengers Bangalore listed 25 players and Kings XI Punjab 23 players. Kolkata Knight Riders named the least number of players amongst all the franchisees as they went ahead with only 20 players including 7 foreign players.

In terms of spending, Mumbai Indians were left with only $1739 from their $9 million purse after all their player purchases. Rajasthan Royals were the only franchisee to exhaust their full purse while Deccan Chargers had the maximum amount left of $1.49 million after their player purchases followed by KXIP who had $1.46 million (approx) left.

Th GOD of cricket Sachin Tendulkar and former Indian captain Saurav Ganguly will lead their respective teams as they clash in a T20 match on Saturday, 6th March, 2010 at 4:30 PM Indian Time. The match named “Cricket Ka Mahayudh” will be played at the Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai. It has also been termed as a SABM (Salil Ankola Benefit Match) and will be a T20 match. The gates will open at 2 PM and the toss would take place at 4:15 PM. The Match will be telecast on Star Cricket.

In Match 50 of IPL T20 season 2, Virender Sehwag won the toss and decided to bat. With the help of a brilliant 79 off 55 balls by AB de Villiers, Delhi Daredevils scored 150/3 in 20 overs. All the Rajasthan Royals batsmen struggled and they lost regular intervals and could only score 136/9 in 20 overs. AB de Villiers was awarded the Man of the Match of his brilliant innings.
