Sachin Tendulkar scored his maiden IPL century today as he played a captain’s knock to guide the team to 182/2 in 20 overs. But Kochi Tuskers Kerala did the unbelievable and pulled up a huge upset against the Mumbai Indians on their home ground as they won with 6 balls to spare. KTK captain Mahela Jayawardena won the toss and put Mumbai Indians to bat. Sachin scored 100 runs off only 66 balls and Ambati Rayudu scored 53 off merely 33 balls as they set KTK a target of 183 runs to win. But the two experienced campaigners Brendon McCullum (81 runs off 60 balls) and Mahela Jayawardena (56 runs off 36 balls) gave the team a brilliant start as they put on a partnership of 128 runs for the first wicket. After their fall, Ravindra Jadeja (25 runs off 11 balls) and Brad Hodge (11 runs off 7 balls) also contributed as Kochi Tuskers Kerala reached 184/2 in just 19 overs. Lasith Malinga took both the KTK wickets but was extremely expensive as he got hammered 42 runs off his 4 overs. Brendon McCullum was awarded the Man of the Match for his blazing innings.

Sahara Pune Warriors defeated Kochi Tuskers Kerala by 4 wickets with 7 balls to spare in a low scoring encounter between the two IPL debutant teams. Kochi skipper Mahela Jayawardena won the toss and decided to bat. But they lost very quickly as they were reduced to 24/4 in 4.5 overs. Ravindra Jadeja (47 off 33 balls) and Brad Hodge (39 off 36 balls) somewhat recovered the team and with the last minute knock of Raiphi Gomez (26 runs off 18 balls) helped the team reach only 148/8 in 20 overs. Wayne Parnell scalped 4 wickets for 35 runs for Pune Warriors. In reply, Pune Warriors batsmen also could not hold long partnerships but blazing knocks of Robin Uthappa (31 runs off 13 balls) and Mohnish Mishra (37 runs off 21 balls) helped the Pune team to reach 15/6 in 18.5 overs. Mohnish Mishra was awarded the Man of the Match.

Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated debutant IPL team Kochi Tuskers Kerala on their home ground by 6 wickets with 8 balls to spare in a high scoring game. Kochi Tuskers Kerala skipper Mahela Jayawardena won the toss and decided to bat. Royal Challengers Bangalore were headed by their new captain Daniel Vettori at the toss. Brendon McCullum (45 runs off 32 balls) and VVS Laxman (36 runs off 29 balls) provided a blazing start as they scored 80 runs in merely 9 overs for the opening stand before VVS departed. They then lost the momentum and Jayawardena (18 runs off 18 balls), Brad Hodge (27 runs off 21 balls) and Ravindra Jadeja (23 not out off 16 balls) contributed as they scored 161/5 in 20 overs. In reply, Royal Challengers Bangalore managed to keep the required run rate under control though they lost wickets at regular intervals. India’s recent U-19 sensation Mayank Agarwal scored a brisk 33 runs off 24 balls including a first ball 6 off Muralitharan while Virat Kohli and Saurabh Tiwary scored 23 runs off 18 balls and 26 runs off 24 balls respectively. But it was AB de Villiers who steadied the innings and scored a match winning 54 runs off 40 balls though debutant Asad Pathan also came to the party too as he scored 3 fours in his short innings of 4 balls as he hit the winning runs. AB De Villiers was adjudged the Man of the Match for his brilliant.

Ross Taylor scored a blazing 81 runs off 33 balls as Bangalore Royal Challengers defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 6 wickets. Anil Kumble won the toss and put Kolkata to bat. Brendon McCullum (84 off 64 balls) and David Hussey (43 off 27 balls) top scored as Kolkata Knight Riders reached 173/4 in 20 overs. Bangalore Royal Challengers were struggling a bit and the required run rate went up as they kept losing on wickets. The required run rate went up to almost 12 in the 12th over itself and to 15 later on but then Ross Taylor came to their rescue as he smashed Bangalore bowlers to score 81 runs off 33 balls. Bangalore Royal Challengers reached the target only in 19.2 overs as they scored 176 losing 4 wickets. Ross Taylor was awarded the Man of the Match as well as the most sixes award for his brilliant knock involving 5 sixes.

The dismal performance of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL continued as Mumbai Indians beat them by 9 runs in the 23rd Match of IPL T20 season 2. Sachin Tendulkar won the toss and decided to bat. With a very useful innings from J P Duminy (52 off 37 balls) after the foundation laid by Sachin Tendulkar (34 off 30 balls), Mumbai Indians reached 148/6 in 20 overs. Kolkata could not keep up with the required run rate when they came to bat and even a brilliant innings by Brad Hodge (73 off 60 balls) and Morne van Wyk (32 off 35 balls) could not save them as they ended up with only 139/6 in their 20 overs. Zaheer Khan was brilliant with the ball with bowling figures of 3 wickets for 31 runs. J P Duminy was awarded with the Man of the Match for his brilliant knock of 52 off 37 balls.
