Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Rajasthan Royals by 9 wickets at their fortress Jaipur as they nearly eliminated RR chances of making it the playoffs of IPL 4. Virat Kohli won the toss as he led the RCB team in the absence of Vettori due to injury and put RR to bat. Rahul Dravid (37 runs off 31 balls) and Shane Watson (34 runs off 29 balls) gave them a steady opening stand but the other failed to capitalized on the start as they were restricted by RCB bowlers to only 146/6 in 20 overs. S Aravind took 3 wickets for RCB. In reply, Chris Gayle thrashed everyone once again as he scored 70 runs off 44 balls and was supported by Tilakaratne Dilshan (38 runs off 24 balls) and Virat Kohli (39 runs off 34 balls) as they cruised to 151/1 in 17 overs. S Aravind was awarded the Man of the Match for his 3 wickets.

Chris Gayle joined Royal Challengers Bangalore as the replacement for Dirk Nannes after he was dropped from the WI squad. But he showed why he is one of the greatest hitters of world cricket as he scored a quickfire century including 7 sixes as KKR had to face yet another brutal defeat at Eden Gardens. RCB captain Daniel Vettori won the toss and put KKR to bat. Kolkata Knight Riders reached a very good total as they scored 171/5 in their 20 overs with important contributions from Gautam Gambhir (48 runs off 38 balls), Yusuf Pathan (46 runs off 24 balls) and Jacques Kallis (40 runs off 42 balls). In reply, Chris Gayle almost single handedly won the game for RCB in his IPL 4 debut as he scored 102 runs in just 55 balls. Bangalore reached 175/1 in just 18.1 overs as Gayle made the target look very easy with the support of Tilakaratne Dilshan (38 runs off 31 balls) and Virat Kohli (30 runs off 23 balls). Chris Gayle was awarded the Man of the Match for his blazing century.

Kolkata Knight Riders have been going through a bad phase in IPL T20 season 2 with controversies not benefiting them either. Royal Challengers have also been going through a poor phase with controversies surrounding them too. So, there was the so called battle of the losers too where Bangalore Royal Challengers defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 5 wickets. Brendon McCullum won the toss and decided to bat. Most of the KKR batsmen struggled and they only managed to reach 139/6 in 20 overs by virtue of a 40 off 37 balls by Chris Gayle and 43 off 35 balls by Morne van Wyk. Anil Kumble had the best bowling statistics of 2 wickets for 16 runs. Bangalore was not terrific with their batting either and they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals while not being able to score most of the time. However, they managed to reach 143/5 in 19.5 overs by due to the innings of Shreevats Goswami (43 off 46 balls) and Mark Boucher (25 off 13 balls). Brad Hodge and Ishant Sharma did well with the bowl with figures of 3/29 and 2/15 respectively. Mark Boucher was awarded the Man of the Match for his speedy innings at the end.

Both Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders came into this 10th Match of IPL T20 season 2 with one loss each in their belt. Both of them are owned by Bollywood stars in the form of Shilpa Shetty and Shahrukh Khan respectively. Both of them had one more thing in common in IPL 2 which is that both teams had one of their matches affected by rain. While Rajasthan Royals last match was a rain washout, Kolkata Knight Riders won their last match on D/L method. In today’s match, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Brendon McCullum won the toss and put Rajasthan Royals to bat. Rajasthan Royals’ batting did not impress enough and they managed only 150/6 in their 20 overs with a 42 off 21 balls from Yusuf Pathan. Kolkata had two of its main batsmen firing with Chris Gayle (41 off 33 balls) and Sourav Ganguly (46 off 30 balls) playing quite well. The match was the most interesting match of IPL 2 bettering the previous Super Kings vs Delhi Daredevils match of the day. The whole Kolkata Knight Riders innings was favorite both the sides at different positions. Even in the last over, Knight Riders needed just 7 off 6 balls. But in the second last ball, Sourav Ganguly got out and it became 2 needed from 1 ball. Then Ishant Sharma got run out in the last ball but he had already run the first run and so the match was a tie. Then came the first Super Over of IPL season 2 to decide the match outcome. In the first Super Over, Kolkata Knight Riders took the bat while Rajasthan Royals took the ball. The batting responsibility for the Kolkata Knight Riders were taken by Chris Gayle, Brendon McCullum and Sourav Ganguly while new rookie Kamran Khan was trusted by Warne for the over. Kamran Khan also bowled the crucial last over of the Knight Rider innings which resulted in the Super Over. Through Chris Gayle hit a few boundaries but Kamran bowled a good line and KKR managed only 15 runs in their Super Over. Then the Rajasthan Royals Super Over came where Yusuf Pathan, Ravindra Jadeja and Dimitri Mascarenhas were chosen to take the batting responsibility by Warne while Kolkata Knight Riders gave the bowling to Sri Lankan medium pacer Ajantha Mendis. Yusuf Pathan hit the first ball for a 6 setting the momentum for the Royals. He took 2 runs from the next ball and then again hit a huge 6 from the following delivery. Chasing the 16 runs target set by KKR for the Super Over, Yusuf Pathan hit 4 runs off the fourth ball making their Super Over tally to 18 runs and surpassing the target easily.
