Yuvraj Singh won the toss and decided to bat. Sunny Sohal scored a blazing 43 runs of 23 balls but rest of the Kings XI Punjab batsmen went out cheaply and the team reached only 119/9 in 20 overs. The spinners bowled exceptionally well for the Mumbai Indians as they were economical while they took wickets at regular intervals. Mumbai Indians chased the score easily and reached 122/2 in 16.2 overs with Dwayne Bravo (70 off 59 balls) and Sachin Tendulkar (41 off 29 balls) playing blistering innings. Harbhajan Singh was awarded the Man of the Match for his bowling spell of 1 wicket for 9 runs in his 4 overs.

Kings XI Punjab seems to be making a comeback again as they beat Mumbai Indians by 3 runs in the 20th Match of IPL T20 season 2. Yuvraj Singh won the toss and decided to bat. The Kings XI Punjab batsmen struggled with the bat and they managed to score only 119/8 in their 20 overs with the help of an useful 45 runs off 44 deliveries by Kumar Sangakkara. It seemed like Mumbai will achieve this easily but they also struggled with the bat and even a valiant innings by J P Duminy (59 off 63 balls) could not help them win the match. Mumbai Indians could score only 116/7 in their 20 overs while Irfan Pathan (2 wickets for 20 runs) and Yusuf Abdulla (2 wickets off 19 runs) excelled with the ball for the Kings. Kumar Sangakarra was awarded the Man of the Match for his 45 runs off 44 deliveries.

Deccan Chargers were regarded the underdogs as they were at the last place in IPL T20 season 1 points tally. On the other hand, Mumbai Indians is regarded as one of the best teams of IPL 2 with a great bowling and batting combination. Adam Gilchrist won the toss and decided to bat. Hershelle Gibbs (58 off 44 balls), Dwayne Smith (35 off 22 balls) and Adam Gilchrist (35 off 20 balls) guided Deccan Chargers to a competitive total of 168/9 in their 20 overs. Lasith Malinga and Dwayne Bravo were good with the ball with 3 for 19 and 3 for 34 respectively. Mumbai Indians started off well after initial hiccup of Jayasuriya’s wicket with Sachin Tendulkar (36 off 27 balls) and J P Duminy (47 off 40 balls) playing brilliantly. But yet again the strategy break proved to be damaging and Sachin got out soon after after which the required run rate kept on increasing. The middle order could not hold for long and instead of great effort by some of the batsmen, Mumbai Indians could only score 156/7 in their 20 overs. Pragyan Ojha from the Deccan Chargers was adjudged the Man of the Match for his spell of 4 wickets for 21 runs.

West Indies has a bilateral series with England starting from 6th May onwards including two tests and three ODIs. However, if reports are to believed then there was a dispute between the players and the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) as this England tour conflicted with the IPL matches. And the main concern of the players were that they were not consulted before fixing this England series suddenly following the withdrawal of Sri Lanka whose players wanted to play in the IPL instead. And now few of the West Indies players have decided to play in the IPL T20 season 2 although they will not boycott the England series completely. West Indian all-rounder Dwayne Bravo will miss both the tests of the England series and will play in the IPL T20 season 2 instead. He was ruled out of the test series as his ankle is still not good for tests. But he has decided to play in the IPL as he believes he is fit enough for T20 cricket. He said that everybody knows the importance of test cricket but his health is not fit for test cricket. Other West Indies players like Chris Gayle and Fidel Edwards will also be playing in IPL 2 but they are set to arrive in England before the first test. However, WICB has kept 17 players in the squad to England as a precautionary measure.

Dwayne Bravo plays for IPL team Mumbai Indians, Edwards plays for Deccan Chargers and Chris Gayle for Kolkata Knight Riders. Hope that from the next year, cricket boards around the world arrange the fixtures in such a way that it does not clash with the IPL.
