Deccan Chargers demolished Kochi Tuskers Kerala by 55 runs at Kochi as they bundled out the hosts for only 74 runs. Kochi captain Mahela Jayawardena won the toss and put Deccan Chargers to bat. DC kept on losing wickets regularly but Kumar Sangakkara played a captain’s knock of 65 runs off 47 balls and he took the team to a modest total of 129/7 in 20 overs with support from Cameron White (31 runs off 34 balls). R Vinay Kumar took 3 wickets for Kochi while RP Singh scalped 2 wickets. In reply, Ishant Sharma demolished the Kochi top order batsmen in his 5 wicket haul as KTK were reeling at 11/6 in just 4 overs. Though the KTK tried to provide some resistance but it was too late as Kochi Tuskers Kerala were bundled out for merely 74 runs in 16.3 overs. Ishant Sharma scalped 5 wickets for 12 runs in his 3 overs while Dale Steyn took 3 wickets for 16 runs in 3.3 overs. Ishant was awarded the Man of the Match for his 5 wicket haul.

Paul Valthaty rose to national prominence from streets of oblivion when he hit a blazing century at Mohali a couple of days ago. But nobody imagined that he would not only shine in the next match itself but also proved himself as an all rounder too as he took 4 wickets for 29 runs and scored 75 runs off 45 balls as Kings XI Punjab demolished Deccan Chargers by 8 wickets with more than 2 overs remaining. Kings XI Punjab captain Adam Gilchrist won the toss at his former home ground Hyderabad and put Deccan Chargers to bat. Shikhar Dhawan (45 runs off 36 balls), Kumar Sangakkara (35 runs off 28 balls) and Daniel Christian (30 runs off 14 balls) contributed as Deccan Chargers scored 165/8 in 20 overs. Ryan McLaren also scalped 2 wickets with Valthaty taking 4. Kings XI Punjab in reply went off to a flyer and the first wicket partnership between Adam Gilchrist (61 runs off 46 balls) and Paul Valthaty (75 runs off 47 balls) of 136 runs in just 14 overs already took the game away from Deccan Chargers. Abhishek Nayar hit a few blows as Kings XI Punjab reached 166/2 in 17.4 overs. Amit Mishra took both the wickets for Chargers but it was too late for any competition. Paul Valthaty was awarded the Man of the Match for his brilliant knock.

Deccan Chargers break home ground jinx with 33 runs win over RCB 0

The home ground of Deccan Chargers since IPL season 1 has been the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium at Hyderabad. They have even been the IPL champions during its second edition at South Africa. However, they had never won a single match in their Hyderabad home ground in all these years till this match. But they finally rose to the occasion and broke the jinx with their first win of IPL season 4 with a 33 run win against Royal Challengers Bangalore. RCB captain Vettori won the toss and put DC to bat. Deccan Chargers went off to a flyer and reached 175/5 in their 20 overs with rapid knocks by Bharat Chipli (61 runs off 35 balls), Sunny Sohal (38 runs off 37 balls) and their captain Kumar Sangakkara (36 runs off 25 balls). Zaheer Khan was the lone ranger in the Bangalore bowling as he took 3 wickets for 32 runs. In reply, Bangalore could never give a befitting reply and kept on losing wickets regularly against the fiery spells of the three DC seamers Dale Steyn (3 wickets for 24 runs), Ishant Sharma (1 wicket for 21 runs) and Manpreet Gony (3 wickets for 31 runs). Virat Kohli was the lone ranger in the Bangalore batting and scored 71 runs off 51 balls but they could only 142/9 in their 20 overs. Steyn was awarded the Man of the Match for his bowling.

Kolkata Knight Riders finally broke their losing jinx as they defeated Deccan Chargers by 9 runs in a convincing win. Gautam Gambhir won the toss and chose to bat. They made a great start mainly due to the second consecutive half century by Jacques Kallis as he scored 53 runs off 45 balls. Then Bisla (19 off 21 balls), Gambhir (29 runs of 18 balls), Manoj Tiwary (30 runs off 21 balls) and Yusuf Pathan (22 runs off 15 balls) contributed as they reached 163/4 in their 20 overs. Deccan Chargers lost regular wickets and only Bharat Chipli scored 48 runs off 40 balls as they only reached 154/8 in their 20 overs. Iqbal Abdulla picked up 3 wickets for 24 runs while Jaidev Unadkat and Rajat Bhatia chipped in with 2 wickets each. Jacques Kallis was adjudged the Man of the Match for his brilliant knock and also for his 4 catches on the field.
