Chennai Super Kings defeat Bangalore Royal Challengers in a thriller at Mumbai to confirm their berth in IPL 4 finals. Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and put Royal Challengers Bangalore to bat. Virat Kohli scored 70 runs off 44 balls and was supported by Mayank Agarwal (34 runs off 33 balls) and Luke Pomersbach (29 runs off 18 balls) as they guided Bangalore to 175/4 in 20 overs. In reply, Chennai lost both their openers and it looked in the middle overs as if they were heading for a defeat. But Suresh Raina (73 runs off 50 balls) played a gem of an innings and was supported by Albie Morkel (28 runs off 10 balls), Mahendra Singh Dhoni (29 runs off 19 balls) and Subramaniam Badrinath (34 runs off 32 balls) as they pulled out an incredible win as they reached 177/4 in 19.4 overs. Zaheer Khan took 2 wickets for RCB. Suresh Raina was awarded the Man of the Match for his amazing knock.

Doug Bollinger took two wickets for CSK. Chennai Super Kings replied very well with Subramanium Badrinath (71 runs off 48 balls) and Michael Hussey (41 runs off 33 balls) playing good knocks but hardly anybody else could even cross double digits as they ended up with 156/9 in their 20 overs.

Kings XI Punjab pulled up an incredible win against defending champions Chennai Super Kings due to an awesome innings by Mumbai lad Paul Valthaty who scored 120 runs for KXIP in merely 63 balls. Punjab skipper Adam Gilchrist won the toss and put CSK to bat. Chennai lost 2 wickets without any runs on the board but Murali Vijay (74 runs off 43 balls), Subramanium Badrinath (66 runs off 56 balls) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (43 runs off 20 balls) recovered the team and helped CSK reach a huge total of 188/4 in 20 overs. In reply, Paul Valthaty almost won the game single-handed for Kings XI Punjab as they scored 193/4 with 5 ball to spare. He also became only the fourth Indian to score a century in the Indian Premier League and unanimously became the Man of the Match for the brilliant innings.

Chennai Super Kings beat Kolkata Knight Riders in a closely fought opening match of IPL 2011 Season 4. The match went to the wire but it was Captain Cool Mahendra Singh Dhoni and his team which kept cool and emerged as winners. Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat. Anirudha Srikkanth opened the batting with Vijay for Chennai while Iqbal Abdulla opened the batting for Kolkata Knight Riders. Abdulla got Vijay in the first over but then KKR were terrible in the field and Yusuf Pathan dropped two catches while Morgan dropped one. Anirudha Srikkanth scored 64 runs off 55 balls while Raina, Dhoni and Morkel contributed with scores of 33(29 balls), 29(21 balls) and 15(9 balls) respectively as CSK scored 153/4 in 20 overs. Kallis scalped 2 wickets for KKR while Abdulla and Yusuf Pathan chipped in with 1 wicket each. Kolkata started very steadily in reply and got a brilliant opening partnership of 64 runs for the opening wicket. After Manvinder Bisla fell in the 9th over, Pathan came in but was also run out on 11 runs with a brilliant throw by Dhoni. Kallis held one end and scored 54 runs off 42 balls but wickets kept falling at regular intervals and KKR could never get any partnership get going. Gautam Gambhir came in at no.6 which was a bit of a surprise but he also could not do much as KKR continued to struggle. Manoj Tiwary hit two consecutive sixes in the 19th over and made it only 9 runs to win from 8 balls. But then he fell at 27 runs off 15 balls and nobody could score the required runs and Chennai Super Kings finally won by 2 runs as KKR could only score 151/7 in their 20 overs. Anirudha Srikkanth was adjudged the man of the match for his match winning knock for CSK. It was interesting match and a fitting opener for IPL T20 Season 4.
