Matthew Hayden (89 runs off 58 balls), Dhoni (56 off 27 balls) and Suresh Raina (32 off 20 balls) smashed apart the Kings XI Punjab bowlers as they scored 185/3 in 18 overs of the rain curtailed match. Kings XI Punjab batsmen also came out very good and the match looked evenly poised with Yuvraj Singh (58 off 36 balls), Simon Katich (50 off 25 balls) and Mahela Jayawardena (44 off 25 balls) hitting flurry of fours and sixes. But the target was too much for the Punjab batsmen and they could only score 174 in their 18 overs. Matthew Hayden was awarded the Man of the Match for his terrific innings.

Chennai Super Kings thrashed the Deccan Chargers in the 29th match of IPL T20 season 2. Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat. Most of the Chennai batsmen cleared the boundary ropes easily and Chennai Super Kings reached 178/3 in 20 overs with prominent contributions from Matthew Hayden (43 off 26 balls), Mahendra Singh Dhoni (58 off 37 balls), Suresh Raina (32 off 19 balls) and Murali Vijay (31 off 33 balls). Deccan Chargers kept losing on wickets when they came to bat and even a cameo by Dwayne Smith (49 off 23 balls) could not save them from defeat. The Deccan Chargers were bundled out for only 100 runs in 14.4 overs. Shadab Jakati was the pick of the bowlers with 4 wickets for 22 runs while Muttiah Muralidaran and Albie Morkel bagged 2 wickets each. Dhoni was awarded the Man of the Match for his brilliant knock.

Delhi Daredevils skipper for this match Gautam Gambhir won the toss and put Chennai Super Kings into bat. Chennai Super Kings had a good start but lost frequent wickets and ended up being all out in 20 overs for a score of 163. Subramaniam Badrinath (45 off 34 balls), Suresh Raina (32 off 21 balls) and Matthew Hayden (30 off 19 balls) made the most significant contributions with the bat for Chennai Super Kings. Dirk Nannes, Ashish Nehra and Rajat Bhatia were brilliant with the ball for the Delhi Daredevils with bowling figures of 3/27, 3/27 and 2/17 respectively. Delhi Daredevils could not keep up with the reqd. RR as they kept on losing frequent wickets and even the two half centuries by IPL debutant David Warner (51 off 40 balls) and Dinesh Karthik (52 off 31 balls) could not save the Delhi Daredevils from defeat. Delhi Daredevils could only score 145/8 in 20 overs. Two Indian domestic players named Shadab Jakati and Sudeep Tyagi who made their first time appearance in IPL had the best bowling figures of 4/24 and 2/18 respectively. Shadab Jakati was also awarded the Man of the Match for his exceptional bowling.

Deccan Chargers were at the last position in IPL T20 season 1 while Chennai Super Kings were the finalist last year. But times have changed and fortunes also seemed to have changed as the match results showed. Adam Gilchrist won the toss and put Chennai Super Kings to bat. Though Chennai Super Kings lost a few wickets but due to a brilliant innings by Matthew Hayden (49 off 35 balls), they were cruising at 88/2 after 10 overs. But then the CSK batsmen struggled and failed to capitalize on the terrific start and ended at 165/6 in 20 overs. Pragyan Ojha was good with the ball for the chargers and took 2 wickets for 11 runs in 2 overs. Deccan Chargers started their innings with sixes and fours throughout the ground by Adam Gilchrist (44 off 19 balls) and Hershelle Gibbs (69 off 56 balls) and they reached 60 in merely 4 overs. Though Chennai Super Kings tried to take a few wickets and curb down the run rate but it was too late and Deccan Chargers cruised to 169/4 in 19.3 overs. Suresh Raina did well for the Super Kings with 2 wickets for 18 runs. Hershelle Gibbs was awarded the Man of the Match for his splendid innings of 69 runs off 56 balls.

Delhi Daredevils and Chennai Super Kings are both probable winners of IPL T20 season 2 and so this match was expected to be a cracker. Virender Sehwag won the toss and decided to bat. Both Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir went out cheaply and it seemed Delhi was not in its usual song today. But then AB de Villiers (105 off 54 balls) hit the first century of IPL 2 and Tillakaratne Dilshan hit 50 off 27 balls to guide Delhi to the highest score of IPL T20 season 2 till now. Delhi Daredevils scored 189/5 in 20 overs giving a seemingly impossible to total to chase of 190 runs. Balaji shone with the ball with 3/19 in his 4 overs. But Chennai Super Kings bounced back very well and with brilliant innings from Matthew Hayden (57 off 27 balls) and Suresh Raina (41 off 27 balls) the match became very competitive. However, they lost too many wickets and they finished at 180/9 in their 20 overs. Pradeep Sangwan and Danniel Vettori shone with the ball with 3/28 and 2/29 respectively. AB De Villiers was awarded the Man of the Match for his blistering century.
