Paul Valthaty’s all round performance demolishes Deccan Chargers 0

Posted on April 16, 2011 by admin

Paul Valthaty rose to national prominence from streets of oblivion when he hit a blazing century at Mohali a couple of days ago. But nobody imagined that he would not only shine in the next match itself but also proved himself as an all rounder too as he took 4 wickets for 29 runs and scored 75 runs off 45 balls as Kings XI Punjab demolished Deccan Chargers by 8 wickets with more than 2 overs remaining. Kings XI Punjab captain Adam Gilchrist won the toss at his former home ground Hyderabad and put Deccan Chargers to bat. Shikhar Dhawan (45 runs off 36 balls), Kumar Sangakkara (35 runs off 28 balls) and Daniel Christian (30 runs off 14 balls) contributed as Deccan Chargers scored 165/8 in 20 overs. Ryan McLaren also scalped 2 wickets with Valthaty taking 4. Kings XI Punjab in reply went off to a flyer and the first wicket partnership between Adam Gilchrist (61 runs off 46 balls) and Paul Valthaty (75 runs off 47 balls) of 136 runs in just 14 overs already took the game away from Deccan Chargers. Abhishek Nayar hit a few blows as Kings XI Punjab reached 166/2 in 17.4 overs. Amit Mishra took both the wickets for Chargers but it was too late for any competition. Paul Valthaty was awarded the Man of the Match for his brilliant knock.

Rajasthan Royals beat Mumbai Indians by 2 runs in an absolute thriller 0

Posted on May 14, 2009 by admin

Match 45 of IPL T20 season 2 was very important for both Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians as a win would almost bring them near the semis while a defeat would virtually end their hope of securing a semi-final berth. Shane Warne won the toss and decided to bat. Rob Quiney (51 off 40 balls) and Ravindra Jadeja (42 off 32 balls) batted brilliantly but the rest of the batsmen could not capitalize after their departure and they ended at 145/7 in their 20 overs. Mumbai Indains did not get a good start in their first six overs as a result of a major shuffling of the batting order where domestic Indian players were sent instead of the seniors. The required run rate kept of increasing and Mumbai Indians kept on losing wickets steadily under the pressure of scoring big runs. Even some good hitting by Sachin Tendulkar (40 off 30 balls) and Abhishek Nayar (35 off 18 balls) could not save the Mumbai Indians as they lost out all wickets in 19.5 overs. It was a trilling match and the death overs were nerve-wrecking as Rajasthan Royals managed to pull out a win even when 5 runs were only required in the last over with 3 wickets left. Shane Warne was awarded the Man of the Match for his brilliant and crucial spell of 3 wickets for 24 runs.
