Posted on April 29, 2009 by admin

Kolkata Knight Riders have been going through a bad phase in IPL T20 season 2 with controversies not benefiting them either. Royal Challengers have also been going through a poor phase with controversies surrounding them too. So, there was the so called battle of the losers too where Bangalore Royal Challengers defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 5 wickets. Brendon McCullum won the toss and decided to bat. Most of the KKR batsmen struggled and they only managed to reach 139/6 in 20 overs by virtue of a 40 off 37 balls by Chris Gayle and 43 off 35 balls by Morne van Wyk. Anil Kumble had the best bowling statistics of 2 wickets for 16 runs. Bangalore was not terrific with their batting either and they kept on losing wickets at regular intervals while not being able to score most of the time. However, they managed to reach 143/5 in 19.5 overs by due to the innings of Shreevats Goswami (43 off 46 balls) and Mark Boucher (25 off 13 balls). Brad Hodge and Ishant Sharma did well with the bowl with figures of 3/29 and 2/15 respectively. Mark Boucher was awarded the Man of the Match for his speedy innings at the end.

Deccan Chargers beat Bangalore by 24 runs in 8th IPL T20 match 0

Posted on April 22, 2009 by admin

Deccan Chargers and Bangalore Royal Challengers both came to the IPL as the underdogs after a dismal performance last year. But they started this year well with a win each. But Deccan Chargers seemed more consistent and so they were the favorites. Adam Gilchrist, the Deccan Chargers captain won the toss and decided to bat. Gilchrist (71 off 45 balls) led the way with support from Rohit Sharam (52 off 30 balls) to post a total of 184/6 in their 20 overs which is also the highest total in IPL 2 till now. Bangalore started off badly with Jesse Ryder bowled for duck by Edwards and their top order failed miserably. Though Rahul Dravid (48 off 27 balls) and Virat Kohli (50 off 32 balls) in the middle order did their best to revive the match but the high target had already slipped off their hands. Bangalore Royal Challengers could only make 160/8 in their 20 overs and were defeated by 24 runs. In the bowling, R P Singh from the Chargers bowled another good spell of 4/17 in his 4 overs to get the purple cap for the highest wicket taken in IPL 2 till now. Adam Gilchrist was awarded the Man of the Match for his blazing innings of 71 off 45 balls.

Bangalore Royal smash Rajasthan Royals in 2nd match of IPL 2 0

Posted on April 18, 2009 by admin

Rajasthan Royals entered IPL T20 season 2 as the defending champions and the expectations were quite high on them to perform. But Warne and his boys could not pull up a win against the Bangalore Royal Challengers which was led under a new captain Kevin Pieterse. However, it was proved once again in this match that the veterans are the pillars of any team and the two best performances in this match were Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble. Pietersen won the toss and decided to bat first. They were put on the backfoot by an exceptional bowling by Rajasthan Royals bolwers initially led by Dimitri Mascarenhas who took two wickets in the first three balls of the match. The Royal Challengers initially seemed to be unable to take on the challenge of the Royals but Rahul Dravid’s brilliant innings (66 off 48 balls) and Kevin Pietersen’s innings (32 off 30 balls) helped the Royal Challengers reach a score of 133 off their 20 overs. The target seemed to be quite easy but Rajasthan Royals had a terrible start where none of their batsmen could bat for long and they lost wickets and regular intervals. They could not increase their run rate too and an excellent spell by Anil Kumble picking 5 wickets for 5 runs made sure that they were bundled out for the second lowest t20 total ever of 58 runs. Rahul Dravid was declared as the man of the match for the game.
