Kings XI Punjab defeated Kochi Tuskers Kerala by 6 wickets in a high scoring encounter. Kings XI Punjab captain Adam Gilchrist won the toss and put KTK to bat. Mahela Jayawardene played a captain’s knock as he scored 76 runs off 52 balls and guided his team to 178/7 in 20 overs. Bipul Sharma took 2 wickets for KXIP. In reply, Dinesh Karthik (69 runs off 33 balls) and Shaun Marsh (42 runs off 30 balls) scored big as King XI Punjab reached 181/4 in 18.5 overs. RP Singh took 4 wickets for KTK though he could not stop the KXIP win. Dinesh Karthik was awarded the Man of the Match for his match winning knock.

Kings XI Punjab pulled up a huge upset over Mumbai Indians as they thrashed MI by 76 runs at Mohali. Mumbai Indians captain Sachin Tendulkar won the toss and put KXIP to bat. Shaun Marsh (43 runs off 34 balls), Dinesh Karthik (31 runs off 24 balls) and Adam Gilchrist (28 runs off 28 balls) contributed as KXIP ended up with 163/8 in 20 overs. However, only the top 4 scored and rest all faltered as the second half of their innings was terrible. Munaf Patel took 5 wickets for MI while Lasith Malinga took 2 wickets. In reply, Mumbai Indians batsmen crumbled as they were bowled out in merely 12.5 overs for 87 runs. Bhargav Bhatt took 4 wickets and Praveen Kumar took 2 wickets for KXIP. Bhargav Bhatt was awarded the Man of the Match for his 4 wickets for 22 runs in 2.5 overs.

Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Kings XI Punjab by 8 wickets with 16 balls remaining at the Eden Gardens as former KKR captain Sourav Ganguly was present amongst the spectators for the first time in IPL 4. KKR captain Gautam Gambhir won the toss and put Kings XI Punjab to bat. Kings XI Punjab kept on losing wickets and Dinesh Karthik scored a run-a-ball 42 runs to guide KXIP to 119/6 in 20 overs. Iqbal Abdulla scalped two wickets for KKR while Yusuf Pathan took one wicket. In reply, Gauti Gambhir (45 runs n.o. off 44 balls), Manoj Tiwary (34 runs n.o. off 41 balls) and Eoin Morgan (28 runs off 15 balls) contributed as KKR cruised to 120/2 in 17.2 overs. Iqbal Abdulla was awarded the Man of the Match for his 2 wickets for 19 runs in his 4 overs.

Paul Valthaty century helps KXIP win against CSK 1

Kings XI Punjab pulled up an incredible win against defending champions Chennai Super Kings due to an awesome innings by Mumbai lad Paul Valthaty who scored 120 runs for KXIP in merely 63 balls. Punjab skipper Adam Gilchrist won the toss and put CSK to bat. Chennai lost 2 wickets without any runs on the board but Murali Vijay (74 runs off 43 balls), Subramanium Badrinath (66 runs off 56 balls) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (43 runs off 20 balls) recovered the team and helped CSK reach a huge total of 188/4 in 20 overs. In reply, Paul Valthaty almost won the game single-handed for Kings XI Punjab as they scored 193/4 with 5 ball to spare. He also became only the fourth Indian to score a century in the Indian Premier League and unanimously became the Man of the Match for the brilliant innings.
