Chennai Super Kings defeat Bangalore Royal Challengers in a thriller at Mumbai to confirm their berth in IPL 4 finals. Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and put Royal Challengers Bangalore to bat. Virat Kohli scored 70 runs off 44 balls and was supported by Mayank Agarwal (34 runs off 33 balls) and Luke Pomersbach (29 runs off 18 balls) as they guided Bangalore to 175/4 in 20 overs. In reply, Chennai lost both their openers and it looked in the middle overs as if they were heading for a defeat. But Suresh Raina (73 runs off 50 balls) played a gem of an innings and was supported by Albie Morkel (28 runs off 10 balls), Mahendra Singh Dhoni (29 runs off 19 balls) and Subramaniam Badrinath (34 runs off 32 balls) as they pulled out an incredible win as they reached 177/4 in 19.4 overs. Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Kings XI Punjab by 8 wickets with 16 balls remaining at the Eden Gardens as former KKR captain Sourav Ganguly was present amongst the spectators for the first time in IPL 4. KKR captain Gautam Gambhir won the toss and put Kings XI Punjab to bat. Kings XI Punjab kept on losing wickets and Dinesh Karthik scored a run-a-ball 42 runs to guide KXIP to 119/6 in 20 overs. Rajasthan Royals cruised over Kochi Tuskers Kerala as they won the match by 8 wickets with 35 balls remaining at their fortress Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. Rajasthan Royals captain Shane Warne won the toss and put Kochi Tuskers Kerala to bat. Kochi kept on losing wickets continuously and were bowled out by RR for a paltry total of 190 all out in 20 overs. Shane Warne took 3 wickets for 16 run while Siddharth Trivedi took 3 wickets for 19 runs. In reply, Shane Watson (49 runs off 40 balls) and Rahul Dravid (44 runs off 37 balls) guided Rajasthan Royals to an easy victory as RR cruised to the target in just 14.1 overs. Kings XI Punjab defeated Rajasthan Royals by 48 runs in their third consecutive win after the two initial losses. Rajasthan Royals skipper Shane Warne won the toss and put KXIP to bat. But Kings XI Punjab blazed away and also scored the fastest fifth in IPL history mainly due to blazing innings by Paul Valthaty (46 runs off 31 balls) and Adam Gilchrist (26 runs off 16 balls). After they got out Shaun Marsh (71 runs off 42 balls) continued though they lost momentum in the final 5 overs of the KXIP innings after he got out as they reached 195/7 in 20 overs. Shaun Tait took two wickets for the Rajasthan Royals while Shane Watson chipped in with 2 wickets. In reply, Rajasthan Royals kept on losing wickets at regular intervals and all their big names got out cheaply as they ended with only 147/7 in 20 overs. Shaun Marsh was awarded the Man of the Match for his elegant yet explosive innings.
