Mumbai Indians pulled off a dramatic last ball win over Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens in Kolkata in the last league match of IPL 4. Mumbai Indians captain Sachin Tendulkar won the toss and put KKR to bat. Jacques Kallis (59 runs off 42 balls), Yusuf Pathan (36 runs off 27 balls) and Manoj Tiwary (35 runs off 22 balls) contributed as KKR scored 175/7 in 20 overs. James Franklin and Abu Nechim Ahmed took 2 wickets each for the Mumbai Indians. In reply, Mumbai Indians kept on losing wickets and they seemed to be in a losing position as they required 44 runs in 3 overs and then 21 runs in the last over. But they took advantage of both overs of Balaji as they smashed him for 37 runs in his two overs (over no. 18 and over no. 20) and finished off the win with a last ball six by Ambati Rayudu to guide MI to 178/5 in 20 overs. James Franklin was the unlikely hero as he scored 45 runs off 23 balls and was ably supported by Ambati Rayudu (17 runs off 6 balls). Rajat Bhatia took 3 wickets for KKR. James Franklin was awarded the Man of the Match for his match winning knock of 45 runs in 23 balls and his 2 wickets for 35 runs.

Kochi Tuskers Kerala defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 17 runs at the final home game at Nehru Stadium, Kochi. KKR captain Gautam Gambhir won the toss and put KTK to bat. Kochi Tuskers Kerala captain Mahela Jayawardena led from the front as he scored 55 runs off 41 balls and then Brad Hodge scored a furious 35 runs off 19 balls including 21 runs off Lee in the final over of the KTK innings to guide Kochi to a competitive total of 156/5 in 20 overs. Jaidev Unadkat took 2 wickets for KKR. In reply, KKR went with a steady start as Eoin Morgan (66 runs off 51 balls) and Jacques Kallis (45 runs off 41 balls) played steadily but none of the other batsmen could speed off as they kept on losing wickets and ended with only 137/7 in 20 overs. Vinay Kumar and Gomez took 2 wickets each for KTK. Brad Hodge was awarded the Man of the Match for his crucial knock and his fielding.

Chris Gayle joined Royal Challengers Bangalore as the replacement for Dirk Nannes after he was dropped from the WI squad. But he showed why he is one of the greatest hitters of world cricket as he scored a quickfire century including 7 sixes as KKR had to face yet another brutal defeat at Eden Gardens. RCB captain Daniel Vettori won the toss and put KKR to bat. Kolkata Knight Riders reached a very good total as they scored 171/5 in their 20 overs with important contributions from Gautam Gambhir (48 runs off 38 balls), Yusuf Pathan (46 runs off 24 balls) and Jacques Kallis (40 runs off 42 balls). In reply, Chris Gayle almost single handedly won the game for RCB in his IPL 4 debut as he scored 102 runs in just 55 balls. Bangalore reached 175/1 in just 18.1 overs as Gayle made the target look very easy with the support of Tilakaratne Dilshan (38 runs off 31 balls) and Virat Kohli (30 runs off 23 balls). Chris Gayle was awarded the Man of the Match for his blazing century.

Match 52 of IPL T20 season 2 was a must win situation for Bangalore Royal Challengers to reach the semis while Delhi Daredevils were comfortably placed in the semi finals of IPL T20 season 2. Virender Sehwag won the toss and decided to bat. Delhi Daredevils batsmen struggled and the team only scored 134/7 in 20 overs. Bangalore Royal Challengers cruised to the target in 19 overs with valuable innings by Jacques Kallis (58 off 56 balls).
