In Match 32 of the IPL T20 season 2, Adam Gilchrist won the toss and put Mumbai Indians to bat. Deccan Chargers could only reach 145/6 in 20 overs with the help of useful innings from Rohit Sharma (38 off 36 balls), Venugopal Rao (28 off 17 balls) and Adam Gilchrist (25 off 29 balls). It seemed to be an easy chase for the Mumbai Indians but it seemed that the Mumbai Indians batsmen had got habituated to the art of choking every time they took a start. Even a valuable half century by J P Duminy (52 off 48 balls) and Pinal Shah (29 off 19 balls) could not save them from a defeat as the whole Mumbai Indians lineup tumbled and could reach only 126/8 in 20 overs. The special feature of the innings is that Rohit Sharma took the second hat-trick of IPL T20 season 2 as he bagged the wickets of Abhishek Nayar, Harbhajan Singh and J P Duminy in consecutive deliveries. After the hat-trick he also took another wicket leaving only one ball in between. The best bowling figures for Deccan Chargers were of Rohit Sharma, R P Singh and Tirumalsetti Suman with figures of 4/6, 2/19 and 2/14 respectively. Rohit Sharma was awarded the Man of the Match for his valuable innings of 38 runs off 36 balls and his bowling spell of 4 wickets for 6 runs in 2 overs.

The dismal performance of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL continued as Mumbai Indians beat them by 9 runs in the 23rd Match of IPL T20 season 2. Sachin Tendulkar won the toss and decided to bat. With a very useful innings from J P Duminy (52 off 37 balls) after the foundation laid by Sachin Tendulkar (34 off 30 balls), Mumbai Indians reached 148/6 in 20 overs. Kolkata could not keep up with the required run rate when they came to bat and even a brilliant innings by Brad Hodge (73 off 60 balls) and Morne van Wyk (32 off 35 balls) could not save them as they ended up with only 139/6 in their 20 overs. Zaheer Khan was brilliant with the ball with bowling figures of 3 wickets for 31 runs. J P Duminy was awarded with the Man of the Match for his brilliant knock of 52 off 37 balls.

The Kings XI Punjab batsmen struggled with the bat and they managed to score only 119/8 in their 20 overs with the help of an useful 45 runs off 44 deliveries by Kumar Sangakkara. It seemed like Mumbai will achieve this easily but they also struggled with the bat and even a valiant innings by J P Duminy (59 off 63 balls) could not help them win the match. Mumbai Indians proved today why they are regarded as the top contenders of IPL T20 season 2 as they thrashed Kolkata Knight Riders by 92 runs. Sachin Tendulkar won the toss and decided to bat. Sachin Tendulkar (68 off 45 balls) and Sanath Jayasuriya (52 off 32 balls) rained sixes and fours displaying to the world why they are regarded as the all time greats in cricket. Mumbai Indians reached 111 without even losing a single wicket at the end of 10 overs. But then they got out and the other batsmen could only take the final score of the Mumbai Indians to 187/6 in 20 overs. For the Knight Riders, Laxmi Ratan Shukla had the best bowling figures of 3 wickets for 25 runs in his four overs. Kolkata Knight Riders started the batting under lights and could not sustain for long with their complete team being bundled out for 95 runs in 15.2 overs. Lasith Malinga and Abhishek Nayyar was exceptional with the ball with figures of 3/11 in 2.2 overs and 3/13 in 3 overs respectively. Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya were awarded the maximum sixes award for this match as they both struck 6 sixes each. Sachin Tendulkar was also awarded the Man of the Match for his blazing innings of 68 runs off 45 balls and his bowling figures of two overs for 11 runs.
