Kings XI Punjab defeated Kochi Tuskers Kerala by 6 wickets in a high scoring encounter. Kings XI Punjab captain Adam Gilchrist won the toss and put KTK to bat. Mahela Jayawardene played a captain’s knock as he scored 76 runs off 52 balls and guided his team to 178/7 in 20 overs. Bipul Sharma took 2 wickets for KXIP. In reply, Dinesh Karthik (69 runs off 33 balls) and Shaun Marsh (42 runs off 30 balls) scored big as King XI Punjab reached 181/4 in 18.5 overs. RP Singh took 4 wickets for KTK though he could not stop the KXIP win. Dinesh Karthik was awarded the Man of the Match for his match winning knock.

Kochi Tuskers Kerala beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 6 runs in a closely contested match at Eden Gardens. KKR captain Gautam Gambhir won the toss and decided to field. KKR bowled well as Kochi managed to only reach 132/7 in their 20 overs with nobody scoring even 30+ for KTK. Yusuf Pathan and Shakib Al Hassan took 3 wickets each for KKR. In reply, KKR also kept on losing wickets regularly and even a valiant effort by Manoj Tiwary (46 runs off 51 balls) could not help as KKR only managed to reach 126/9 in 20 overs. RP Singh and Ravindra Jadeja took two wickets each for the Kochi team. Kochi captain Jayawardena was awarded the Man of the Match for his overall performance with the bat, on the field and for his excellent captaincy.

Sachin Tendulkar scored his maiden IPL century today as he played a captain’s knock to guide the team to 182/2 in 20 overs. But Kochi Tuskers Kerala did the unbelievable and pulled up a huge upset against the Mumbai Indians on their home ground as they won with 6 balls to spare. KTK captain Mahela Jayawardena won the toss and put Mumbai Indians to bat. Sachin scored 100 runs off only 66 balls and Ambati Rayudu scored 53 off merely 33 balls as they set KTK a target of 183 runs to win. But the two experienced campaigners Brendon McCullum (81 runs off 60 balls) and Mahela Jayawardena (56 runs off 36 balls) gave the team a brilliant start as they put on a partnership of 128 runs for the first wicket. After their fall, Ravindra Jadeja (25 runs off 11 balls) and Brad Hodge (11 runs off 7 balls) also contributed as Kochi Tuskers Kerala reached 184/2 in just 19 overs. Lasith Malinga took both the KTK wickets but was extremely expensive as he got hammered 42 runs off his 4 overs. Brendon McCullum was awarded the Man of the Match for his blazing innings.

Sahara Pune Warriors defeated Kochi Tuskers Kerala by 4 wickets with 7 balls to spare in a low scoring encounter between the two IPL debutant teams. Kochi skipper Mahela Jayawardena won the toss and decided to bat. But they lost very quickly as they were reduced to 24/4 in 4.5 overs. Ravindra Jadeja (47 off 33 balls) and Brad Hodge (39 off 36 balls) somewhat recovered the team and with the last minute knock of Raiphi Gomez (26 runs off 18 balls) helped the team reach only 148/8 in 20 overs. Wayne Parnell scalped 4 wickets for 35 runs for Pune Warriors. In reply, Pune Warriors batsmen also could not hold long partnerships but blazing knocks of Robin Uthappa (31 runs off 13 balls) and Mohnish Mishra (37 runs off 21 balls) helped the Pune team to reach 15/6 in 18.5 overs. Mohnish Mishra was awarded the Man of the Match.
