Mumbai Indians thrashed Pune Warriors by 21 runs at the home ground of the Pune Warriors at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. Pune captain Yuvraj won the toss and put Mumbai Indians to bat. MI looked to be heading towards a moderate total as all their top 4 batsmen got out cheaply with a strike rate of run a ball or less. But Tirumalasetti Suman (36 runs off 16 balls) and Keiron Pollard (28 runs off 21 balls) provided the late charge which propelled them to a competitive score of 160/7 in 20 overs. Rahul Sharma, Yuvraj Singh and Jerome Taylor took 2 wickets each for the Pune Warriors. In reply, Sahara Pune Warriors kept on losing wickets cheaply and the valiant efforts of Manish Pandey (59 runs off 49 balls) and Robin Uthappa (34 n.o. off 26 balls) could not save them another defeat as they ended up with only 139/7 in 20 overs. Lasith Malinga took 3 wickets for the Mumbai Indians. Rahul Sharma was awarded the Man of the Match for his 2 wickets for only 7 runs in his 4 overs.

Mumbai Indians defeated Sahara Pune Warriors by 7 wickets in a closely fought low scoring match. Pune captain Yuvraj won the toss and decided to bat. But Pune Warriors were bundled out by the Mumbai bowlers as they could manage only 188 all out in 17.2 overs. Robin Uthappa was the highest scorer for Pune Warriors with 45 runs off 37 balls while Munaf Patel (3 wickets for 8 runs), Abu Nechim Ahmed (2 wickets for 13 runs), Ali Murtaza (2 wickets for 18 runs) and Lasith Malinga (2 wickets for 28 runs) were the main wicket takers fro the Mumbai Indians. Mumbai Indians made a slow and steady chase in reply and scored the winning runs off the last ball of the innings as Rohit Sharma hit Murali Kartik for a six to reach 124/3. Sachin Tendulkar (35 runs off 39 balls) and Ambati Rayudu (37 runs off 40 balls) were the highest scorers for Mumbai. Munaf Patel was awarded the Man of the Match for his 3 wickets and economical bowling.

Sahara Pune Warriors defeated Kochi Tuskers Kerala by 4 wickets with 7 balls to spare in a low scoring encounter between the two IPL debutant teams. Kochi skipper Mahela Jayawardena won the toss and decided to bat. But they lost very quickly as they were reduced to 24/4 in 4.5 overs. Ravindra Jadeja (47 off 33 balls) and Brad Hodge (39 off 36 balls) somewhat recovered the team and with the last minute knock of Raiphi Gomez (26 runs off 18 balls) helped the team reach only 148/8 in 20 overs. Wayne Parnell scalped 4 wickets for 35 runs for Pune Warriors. In reply, Pune Warriors batsmen also could not hold long partnerships but blazing knocks of Robin Uthappa (31 runs off 13 balls) and Mohnish Mishra (37 runs off 21 balls) helped the Pune team to reach 15/6 in 18.5 overs. Mohnish Mishra was awarded the Man of the Match.

Royal Challengers were looking a revived side under new captain Anil Kumble as they took on Mumbai Indians in the 28th Match of the IPL T20 season 2. Sachin Tendulkar won the toss and decided to bat. Most of the Mumbai batsmen faltered once again and they could only make 149/4 in 20 overs on a batsman friendly pitch. Sanath Jayasuriya and Dwayne Bravo top scored for the Mumbai Indians with scores of 52 off 43 balls and 50 off 40 balls respectively. IPL debutant Dillon du Preez bowled exceptionally well for the Royal Challengers taking 3 wickets for 32 runs in his 4 overs. Banglore Royals Challengers cruised to the target in 18.1 overs with the help of steady batting performance by Jacques Kallis’ (69 off 59 balls) and Robin Uthappa (66 off 42 balls) and also helped by pathetic bowling by the Mumbai Indians. Jacques Kallis was awarded the Man of the Match due to his steady batting and bowling performances.
