Mumbai Indians thrashed Pune Warriors by 21 runs at the home ground of the Pune Warriors at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. Pune captain Yuvraj won the toss and put Mumbai Indians to bat. MI looked to be heading towards a moderate total as all their top 4 batsmen got out cheaply with a strike rate of run a ball or less. But Tirumalasetti Suman (36 runs off 16 balls) and Keiron Pollard (28 runs off 21 balls) provided the late charge which propelled them to a competitive score of 160/7 in 20 overs. Rahul Sharma, Yuvraj Singh and Jerome Taylor took 2 wickets each for the Pune Warriors. In reply, Sahara Pune Warriors kept on losing wickets cheaply and the valiant efforts of Manish Pandey (59 runs off 49 balls) and Robin Uthappa (34 n.o. off 26 balls) could not save them another defeat as they ended up with only 139/7 in 20 overs. Lasith Malinga took 3 wickets for the Mumbai Indians. Rahul Sharma was awarded the Man of the Match for his 2 wickets for only 7 runs in his 4 overs.

In Match 32 of the IPL T20 season 2, Adam Gilchrist won the toss and put Mumbai Indians to bat. Deccan Chargers could only reach 145/6 in 20 overs with the help of useful innings from Rohit Sharma (38 off 36 balls), Venugopal Rao (28 off 17 balls) and Adam Gilchrist (25 off 29 balls). It seemed to be an easy chase for the Mumbai Indians but it seemed that the Mumbai Indians batsmen had got habituated to the art of choking every time they took a start. Even a valuable half century by J P Duminy (52 off 48 balls) and Pinal Shah (29 off 19 balls) could not save them from a defeat as the whole Mumbai Indians lineup tumbled and could reach only 126/8 in 20 overs. The special feature of the innings is that Rohit Sharma took the second hat-trick of IPL T20 season 2 as he bagged the wickets of Abhishek Nayar, Harbhajan Singh and J P Duminy in consecutive deliveries. After the hat-trick he also took another wicket leaving only one ball in between. The best bowling figures for Deccan Chargers were of Rohit Sharma, R P Singh and Tirumalsetti Suman with figures of 4/6, 2/19 and 2/14 respectively. Rohit Sharma was awarded the Man of the Match for his valuable innings of 38 runs off 36 balls and his bowling spell of 4 wickets for 6 runs in 2 overs.

In IPL T20 season 1, Deccan Chargers were placed at the last position in the points tally while Rajasthan Royals bagged the IPL title. But in IPL T20 season 2 Deccan Chargers won all its initial matches while Rajasthan Royals had just lost quite a few of the matches initially. So, the contest was going to be very interesting as expected. Adam Gilchrist won the toss and decided to bat. With useful contributions from Adam Gilchrist (39 off 35 balls), Rohit Sharma (38 off 32 balls) and Tirumalsetti Suman (41 off 32 balls), Deccan Chargers reached 141/5 in 20 overs. Shane Harwood did well for the Royals with the ball playing his first IPL match and he took 2 wickets for 25 runs. Rajasthan Royals had a terrible start as three of its top order batsmen got out on ducks. But then some brilliant knocking by Abhishek Raut (36 off 23 balls), Lee Carseldine (39 off 32 balls), Yusuf Pathan (24 off 14 balls) and Shane Warne (21 off 17 balls) helped Rajasthan Royals reach the target in 19.4 overs.
